The Seventh Domain (May 23, 2026)

I’ve just finished The Seventh Domain. It’s a standalone book, but could be the first in a new series. At 95,000 words it’s my shortest book to date—even though it will probably run about 400 pages long.

The Seventh Domain

What’s it about, I hear you say. Glad you asked.

The king is dead and a powerful sorcerer denies a child’s existence. In the brutal world of the Nine Domains neither is safe. Together they travel through the Seventh Domain toward the Sheerness, a city built from semi-translucent marble on the far western edge of the continent. Foreigners call it Sheerport, but to every man, woman and child in the Nine Domains it is known as the Sheerness.

Every character in the book is converging toward the exact same point in time and space. The Sheerness is not the largest city ruled by the Kings of Nine, but when a king dies it is the only city where the new king may be crowned. Water from its Motherwell must anoint the king's head. Light passing through its marble must guild his spine as it touches the Throne of Nine.

That just about covers it for now. For the first 30,000 words the book was titled The Pluff, but it soon became obvious to me the world is larger and more complex than the vast stretch of marshland known as the Pluff.

The book is so new I’m still working on line edits. When I have more information on The Seventh Domain’s future I’ll let you know.

Yours, JV
